Using in-built Windows functionality

Here we will learn to capture screenshots using the tools that exist on every Windows computer. You will be able to capture the whole screen, a window or just a part of the screen.

Capturing the entire visible screen into a file

Press the and PrtSc keys at the same time. This captures the entire screen and saves it into a file under Pictures > Screenshots folder.

How to capture entire screen

Capturing the entire visible screen into the clipboard

Press the PrtSc key on your keyboard. This captures the entire screen and copies it into your clipboard.

Capturing the active window into the clipboard

Press Alt and PrtSc keys at the same time. This captures the currently active window and copies it into your clipboard.

Capturing a selected area into the clipboard

  1. Press , Shift and S keys at the same time.
  2. Use your mouse to select the area you want to capture. This captures the selected area and copies it into your clipboard.

Using the screenshot from the clipboard

Press Ctrl and V keys at the same time. This will paste the screenshot captured using one of the methods above into the currently active window. You can paste screenshots for example into: documents, emails, and more.
